This program has been operating for several years throughout the Hawaiian Islands to reduce the pain and suffering of the exploding undomesticated, feral cat population on the Islands. On Maui alone, the feral cat population is estimated to be over 500,000 animals that are prone to disease, starvation, and mistreatment. The program consists of trapping feral cats, spaying and neutering them, and then relocating them to humane, well cared for colonies where they can safely live out the remainder of their lives. The Maui Cat program is headquartered in a facility on Maui, and due to the success of the program on Maui and Lanai, negotiations are currently underway to purchase additional colony relocation land, a fully operational veterinary clinic, along with a mobile surgical vehicle.
