The Artesian African Drought Relief Project

Among the many deleterious effects associated with global warming has been a long and deadly drought throughout the African continent. Especially hard hit has been the Eastern coastal countries of Somalia, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Kenya. In northern Kenya, thousands have perished due to a lack of potable drinking water with no relief in sight. The Dax Foundation is spearheading the Artesian Drought Relief project, an effort to develop and deploy highly-effective mobile drilling platforms, free-of-charge, to communities hardest hit by this devastating blight. The Foundation is working closely with design teams to construct a low-cost drilling platform that can be mounted on a small pick-up truck and quickly drill water wells to alleviate the suffering. Once the design is finalized, the platform will be mass-produced and shipped to needy communities as quickly as possible. The program is currently scheduled to being deploying systems in Eastern Africa within the next 24 months with a goal of deploying a total of 500 drilling systems over the life of the program.
