Install the skill in Claude

A skill is a small folder Claude reads so it knows one job well. This one, metadax-homeschool, interviews you and builds your child’s lesson. Add it once; use it whenever you like. It runs on your own Claude subscription.

In the Claude app (web or desktop)

1. Download the skill: metadax-homeschool.zip. Do not unzip it.

2. In Claude, open Settings, then Capabilities. Make sure “Code execution and file creation” is on. Under Skills, choose “Upload skill”, pick the zip, and switch it on.

Skills need a paid Claude plan. If the menu looks different, Claude’s help has the current steps: support.claude.com →

In Claude Code

Never used a terminal? The Claude app steps above are easier. These steps are for Claude Code.

1. Open a terminal. Mac: press Cmd and Space, type Terminal, press Enter. Windows: open PowerShell from the Start menu.

2. Install Claude Code: paste the install line from Claude’s install page (code.claude.com/docs/en/setup) and press Enter. Check it with claude --version; a number means it worked. Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan (Pro or Max).

3. Make a folder for lessons and start there (Mac: mkdir -p ~/Documents/Lessons && cd ~/Documents/Lessons; Windows PowerShell: mkdir ~\Documents\Lessons; cd ~\Documents\Lessons), then type claude and press Enter.

 Let's get started.

Then

Start a new chat and type:

Use the metadax-homeschool skill. I homeschool and my child is stuck on something.

It asks about a dozen short questions, a few at a time: a nickname for your child (never a real name), a rough age, the subject, the exact spot where it goes wrong, a real wrong answer if you have one, and what they love. It builds the lesson through that. If you type anything identifying, it tells you and leaves it out.

Open what it built

Your answers go to Claude under your account’s own privacy settings. The package it builds is a file that stays with you. Open the player, press “Open a file” and pick it (or paste it in), then press Play; read your tab first.
