Everybody Moves: the era of sitting still is over

This is the start of a short series, and it is a tribute. We did not build our tools with anyone’s blessing, and we have none to claim. What we have is a reading. For years one public figure has said, in plain words and in paid campaigns and in a free newsletter that goes out every single day, that movement is not a privilege of the young or the fit or the rich — it belongs to every body, at every age. We read that as the clearest statement anyone has made of what our own tools are for. So we are writing down what we heard, and tying it to what we are handing out.

The figure is Arnold Schwarzenegger. In November 2024 a Fortune 500 orthopedics company, Zimmer Biomet, created a seat that had never existed and gave him the title “Chief Movement Officer,” stated purpose: “to inspire people everywhere to keep moving, no matter their challenges or stage in life.” He has his own thing too, Arnold’s Pump Club, a free daily newsletter and podcast he describes as “backed by me.” The reach is large — by his own January 2025 count, “almost a million” subscribers — and none of it is behind a paywall on the day the workout goes out.

We are not affiliated with any of it. Read the last line of every piece in this series. But when he says, as he did at that November 2024 announcement, “I want every single person in the world to discover the joy of fitness and movement,” we hear our own mission said better than we have said it.

The one line we keep coming back to

“Keep moving, no matter their challenges or stage in life.” Strip out the medtech context and that is a design spec. It does not say get fit. It does not say compete. It says keep moving, and it addresses itself to the person with the challenge and the person at the wrong stage — the one most products quietly write off. That is the person we built for too.

Because here is the thing we actually believe, and it is the reason this series exists. The years in which a screen was the default place to put a human being are ending. Not because screens are evil, but because the tools to get a person up, moving, and doing something real with their hands and their body — and to do it cheaply, safely, and without a subscription — now exist. We have some of them. We are not going to sit on them.

What we are giving away

Our side of this is simple, and it is the whole point of the grand opening this series opens:

  • A one-click way to own your own stream — bring your own, run it yourself, no middleman.
  • Re·UI — an interface you move in front of, not one you sit and tap at.
  • A gesture lab — the techniques, written down and open, so a person learns to move by moving.
  • The gift — the whole stack, given, free, because getting people off the couch is just plainly good for people.

We are not a gatekeeper for any of this. The posture is the opposite: we are looking for partners, and we will give them the technology, and we will show them how to use it safely. If you can get people moving — a gym, a clinic, a school, a parent at a kitchen table, a town — then this was built for you to take. The cognition behind it is provided by Obsidian Delta; the tools themselves are yours to have.

Why a tribute, and why him

Because the argument is already made, and it is made better out loud, by someone who has said it ten thousand times, than it would be made by us saying it once in a launch post. “Fitness is for everybody.” “Progress, not profit.” “Age is not an excuse.” Those are his lines, from his own publications, and over the next four parts we are going to take each one seriously — check it against the record, keep only what is sourced, and show exactly where it lands on the thing we are handing out.

This is Part 1 of five. The rest: fitness is for everybody and what “free” has to mean to earn that word; age is not an excuse and what the research actually says; progress, not profit, and why we built this to be given rather than sold; and the one that matters most to us — team up with anyone who can get people moving. That last one is not a metaphor. It is the ask.

The era of sitting still is over. We think he has been saying so for years. We are just the ones showing up with the tools.
